TREAD was subjected to the rising and falling of the tides. Throughout the tide cycle, the animals would appear to be walking on the seabed, swimming, walking on water and then totally submerged. I wanted to juxtapose our romantic imaginings of deer and the sea against the reality of the raw power of the ocean. Two creatures struggle to make do in a foreign in setting amidst a backdrop of the coming and going of tourists from enormous cruise ships.
